Empowering Sustainable Living in Urban Environments.

The Problem

Limited outdoor space in urban environments hinders sustainable living and environmental education.
Inadequate air circulation in indoor herb gardens leads to mold and mildew growth, reducing plant health and yields.
Audience

Limited outdoor space:
Families living in apartments in urban environments, such as New York City.
Sustainability-minded:
Conscious about waste reduction and eager to adopt sustainable practices.
Family-oriented:
Interested in educating their children on composting and sustainable living.
Prototyping Process

Product Overview
Detachable Compost Bin

Accelerated Decomposition:
contains a spinning blade and electronic components to accelerate the decomposition of organic food waste, resulting in nutrient-rich compost soil.

Detachable Design:
The compost bin is detachable from the base, allowing for easy removal, cleaning, and refilling.
Control Hub

The base unit serves as the control center for the herb garden system
Three dedicated buttons:
power on/off, ventilate, and compost – users can easily control the various functions of the system
Rotating Modular Planters
Compostable at End of Life:
Made from compostable materials. Can be safely composted at the end of their lifespan.

Modular Stackable Design:
users can create custom layouts and configurations to fit their space and preferences.
Rotation for Enhanced Ventilation:

The base stick slots into the revolving motor of the base.
The gentle rotation occurs every 45 minutes to facilitate optimal ventilation and eliminate the growth-restricting force of gravity.
Each plant receives uniform exposure to sunlight, promoting even growth and maximizing yield.

Closing The Loop
By composting your food scraps in the detachable compost bin, you're not only diverting waste from landfills but also creating a sustainable cycle where your old food becomes your new food.
This closed-loop system promotes circularity and resource efficiency, demonstrating how simple actions at home can contribute to a more sustainable and regenerative food system.
